    What is the Online Trading Voucher Scheme?

    AIM OF THE PROGRAMME

    The aim of the Online Trading Voucher programme, administered by the Local Enterprise Office, is to support and enhance the online presence of SMEs and small businesses, fostering their growth and expansion.

     

    HOW IT WORKS?

    Under this programme, SMEs and small businesses can claim up to 50% reimbursement for costs associated with digital marketing strategies, e-commerce websites and digital implementation. To avail of the total €5,000 you will need to apply for two vouchers. When applying for the second voucher you will be required to have fully submitted the final claim for your first voucher. 

    How Do I Qualify for The LEO Online Trading Voucher Scheme?

    The Online Trading Voucher scheme is explicitly aimed at small Irish businesses that want to improve their website, e-commerce and digital marketing presence. 

    Businesses that apply for the grant need to meet the following criteria:

    • Limited or no e-commerce presence
    • No more than 10 employees
    • Less than €2m in turnover
    • Be trading for at least 6 Months
    • Be located in the region of the Local Enterprise Office to whom you are applying (note the supplier doesn’t need to be working in the same region, or even Ireland!)
    • Attend a Trading Online Seminar with your Local Enterprise Office (there’s usually one or two held each month)

      In order to receive the voucher reimbursement, you need to pay all suppliers involved in the project and submit the required documentation, such as receipts, bank statements, and a completed form, to your local LEO.

       

    • Can I apply for a second Trading Online Voucher?

      Yes, you are eligible to apply for a second Trading Online Voucher once the first is fully submitted. This can be particularly relevant if your website requires significant upgrades or the addition of advanced functionalities to further enhance your online trading capabilities.

       

    • How long do I have to complete the project once the voucher is awarded?

      Once your LEO confirms the voucher award, you will have six months to complete the required work and use the voucher for the approved project.

      No, the voucher does not cover any VAT charges imposed by your suppliers. VAT is a separate cost that you will need to pay directly to the suppliers. If your business is VAT registered, you will be able to reclaim the VAT amount, against your own VAT charges.

      You can include costs for a new visual identity, custom photography, a digital marketing strategy, video production, and even digital advertising (e.g., Google ads, Facebook ads) up to a maximum of 30% of the overall voucher value. Additional options include integrating a Learning Management System or setting up a shop selling physical products.

      Yes, the voucher can be used to cover the costs of productivity apps, such as Xero, ConvertKit, Asana, Canva, MailChimp, and more, that facilitate online trading.
